2008 GOLD - FIRST PLACE, SHORT VIDEO CATEGoRY
International Safety Media Awards

Most children are injured in their own homes. We need to stop thinking of home injuries as "accidents" that can't be prevented. In fact, the number one health risk for Canada's children is preventable injuries.

THE VIDEO:
The Video looks at the most common sources of childhood injuries and how real families discover real solutions to preventing household injuries. Viewers go on a "House Detective Home Tour" through four rooms (Nursery, Bathroom, Kitchen, Living Room.) Each room features a different family (First Nations, Latin American, African-Canadian and Euro-Canadian), with children ages newborn to 6. (Length:18 minutes) Now available on both VHS and DVD in English, French or Spanish.

THE GUIDE:
The Guide can be used as a follow-up to the video, or on its own. It is attractive and user-friendly. Readers are asked to identify the "Hazards" in each room, and the "Solutions" to the Hazards. Answers appear on the flip side of the Test page -- for immediate reinforcement. (10 pages) The guide is also available in French or Spanish.
